2018 General Assembly: Not a rosy outlookWith downgraded revenue expectations, pension obligations and tax reform, the upcoming legislative session can’t be anything but tough for P-12 education. As this issue went to press, we still didn’t know if pension reform would be pushed to the regular session, further complicating it.
Charter schools: No waitingSchool board members attending KSBA’s Winter Symposium were urged by the state’s top charter schools official not to wait until they receive a charter application to lay the groundwork. That includes policies, training and a process for receiving and reviewing applications.

Whatever happened to?KSBA has been recognizing outstanding innovative public education programs since 1997. Twenty years later, many of those programs are still improving academic achievement in their districts.
