William G. Scott of Frankfort became the chief executive of the Kentucky School Boards Association (KSBA) on July 1, 2005.  He has been the associate executive director since 2003.

 

Scott, 54, came to KSBA in 1995 to create a school safety and student support service that focuses on reducing learning barriers for students while building resources for schools to use in addressing safety issues.  During his tenure with KSBA, he also spent a year as the interim director of the Kentucky Center for School Safety.

 

 A former youth counselor and social worker, Scott has worked in school, child and family therapy programs for state agencies in Kentucky and New York.  He came to KSBA from the Kentucky Department of Education, where he directed the Division of Student and Family Support Services.  He also was director of the Child and Adolescent Service System Program in the Kentucky Department for Mental Health and Mental Retardation Services.

 

Scott, who has master’s degrees from the University of Kentucky and Alfred University in New York, is a member of the Class of 2003 of Leadership Kentucky. He is a member of the boards of directors of the Kentucky Humanities Council, the HOPE Foundation and Kentucky Child Now!

 

Established in 1936, the nearly 900-member KSBA represents school districts and local boards of education in all of Kentucky’s public school systems by providing training, consultation, advocacy and numerous other services to school officials statewide.
