KSBA Education Foundation Inc.

The Kentucky School Boards Association Education Foundation Inc. began its work this year in response to the evolving role of school boards in Kentucky.

The foundation, originally formed about eight years ago, was revitalized in 2004 with a new slate of board members who will help KSBA by taking a fresh look at what school boards need to meet emerging challenges such as new federal and state standards, the need for more community engagement and pressure to increase student achievement.

Local boards require additional opportunities for training and technical assistance to adequately address these new opportunities. The foundation will serve as a vehicle for grants and donations to help fund new programs that will benefit school boards and districts.

Foundation board members are:

Chair Carl Wicklund, Kenton County school board chairman; plant manager, Wagstaff Inc.
Secretary Neil Archer, chairman, McCracken County Board of Education; founder, Arch Environmental Equipment Inc.
Treasurer Elaine Wilson, associate director of Oakwood; member, Somerset Independent school board and the University of Kentucky Board of Trustees
Lonnie Anderson, Whitley County Schools superintendent and former F.L. Dupree Award winner for outstanding superintendent
Ron Bishop Director, Division of Community Corrections, Fayette County Detention Center
Ed Ford, former state senator and Senate Education Committee chairman; most recently secretary of former Gov. Paul Patton’s executive cabinet
Delmar Mahan, president-elect of KSBA and Whitley County board member. (Foundation bylaws call for the KSBA president-elect to serve on the foundation board.)
Kathy Quinn, former teacher and Kentucky Department of Education administrator; director of education for Kentucky Educational Television
KSBA’s executive director, Bill Scott, serves as an ex-officio member of the board
