Swearing-in ceremonies begin for Kentucky school board members Under Kentucky law, the terms of outgoing board of education members expired yesterday, Jan. 1, the first Monday of the month. That means swearing-in ceremonies will be taking place for all re-elected and newly-elected school board members, usually at the first meeting of this month. Two oaths of office are required for Kentucky school board members: a statutory oath for all local board members and also a constitutional oath as part of their role as officials under the state Constitution. KSBA Legal Services staff have provided the text and the citations for both oaths on our Web site at this address: http://www.ksba.org/boardoath.htm January also is the time when Kentucky observes School Board Member Recognition Month. KSBA is inviting districts to e-mail up to two (2) photographs of any local presentations honoring members during their meetings. Photos in either jpg or tif-formats should be e-mailed to Brad Hughes at brad.hughes@ksba.org. We plan on using as many as possible in the weekly editions of Boardcast throughout this month. # # # |
