KSBA lobbying team grows in preparation for 2007 General Assembly When the 2007 Kentucky General Assembly opens in January, legislators will be greeted by a new advocate on behalf of the state's public schools and school boards. Laurent Rawlings, a 2006 graduate of the University of Kentucky School for Public Policy, has joined the KSBA Governmental Relations unit. Her previous experience includes research for the Kentucky League of Cities and fund raising duties in the current mayoral campaign in Lexington. "Laurent gained invaluable experience with fund-raising in that campaign and she'll use that background to build support for KSBA's Kids First political action committee," said Alicia Sells, director of the association's governmental relations service. Rawlings also will lobby the legislature and executive branch in Frankfort, while working to increase KSBA's legislative efforts in Washington, D.C. She also will manage the association's Administrative Regulations Review service. "Laurent's campaign experience and educational background in public policy development add greatly to our ability to be effective advocates for kids," said Sells. "She is a product of Kentucky public schools and a real testament to how our schools are preparing outstanding young professionals. We are lucky to have her join us at KSBA." In addition to her master's degree from UK, Rawlings earned a bachelor's degree from the University of South Florida in Tampa in 2002. # # # |
