"A brighter future through better public schools"

Leader of "21st century skills movement" to present keynote address at KSBA annual conference

Ken Kay, president and co-founder of the Tucson, Ariz.-based Partnership for 21st Century Skills, will talk about the national high school reform movement and the skills that high school graduates need when he delivers the Saturday luncheon address at the 2007 KSBA Annual Conference.

The conference at the Galt House East in Louisville annually draws more than 1,000 school board members, superintendents, other educators, state leaders and public school advocates.  The full conference runs Feb. 23-25.

The Partnership for 21st Century Skills is a collaborative of education, business and government leaders that was formed in 2002 by the U.S. Department of Education, the National Education Association, Apple Computers, Cisco Systems, Microsoft Corporation and the Time-Warner/AOL Foundation.  A focus of the partnership is the incorporation of 21st century skills development into the curriculum of America's K-12 schools.

Kay was executive director of the CEO Forum from 1996 to 2001, where he oversaw production of the StaR Chart (School Technology & Readiness Guide) that is used in many schools to enhance use of technology in the classroom.  He spent 10 years as partner in a Washington, D.C. law firm and another eight years as a legislative staff director for a U.S. senator and congressman.

More information on the lineup for the 71st annual KSBA conference will be coming later this fall.
