"A brighter future through better public schools"

Metcalfe Co. board member joins KSBA staff as training specialist

In keeping with a long-standing practice, KSBA has dipped into the ranks of leaders with school board experience to fill a job that will involve many of the association's board-specific training services.

Teresa Bell Kindred, a five-year member of the Metcalfe County Board of Education, has joined the KSBA staff as a board team development specialist.  Kindred replaces former Fayette County board member Kathy Lousignont, who moved to Kansas earlier this year.

Kindred most recently has been a grant writer, volunteer coordinator and public relations staff member for the Glasgow Independent Schools.  A 1987 and 1996 graduate of Western Kentucky University, she has been a teacher in three school systems and has participated in school culture and scholastic audits.

A free-lance writer, Kindred is the author of "Mom: PhD" and may be best known to readers of Kentucky Living magazine, where her monthly column, Kindred Spirits, has appeared since 1996.  A local businesswoman in Edmonton, she is currently a member of the speakers bureau of the Kentucky Humanities Council.

In her new role at KSBA, Kindred will manage training for KSBA's new "cadre" of current and former school board members who themselves assist local boards with professional development needs, and will oversee the association's participation in the joint KSBA/KASS/KDE Voluntary Partnership Assistance Team (VPAT) initiative, which provides intensive services to boards, administrators and schools in districts that are in the highest assistance category under state and federal assessment measurements.
