KSBA seeks student performers for 2007 conference by Dec. 31; ASAP board nominations due by Dec. 1 The KSBA Annual Conference is not that far off (Feb. 23-25) and one of the components that make it such a success is the inclusion of student performances. Student performers not only entertain but they reinforce the reason that people attend the conference – to see and hear examples of student success. In 2007, Kerri Schelling, KSBA's new director of Board Team Development and chief conference planner, is offering a new option for districts interested in showcasing their students at KSBA conferences. The attached form will be used to collect the information that will help make appropriate matches with available conference opportunities. "With as much talent as we have in Kentucky’s public schools, we know that it will be difficult to include every proposal in the conference," Schelling said. "This coming year, there will be four opportunities for student presentations during the conference. All submissions will be reviewed by a panel of planning committee members and KSBA staff." In addition to the form, it is recommended that districts submit an audio and/or video audition tape. Click here for guidelines. All proposals must be received by the close of business Dec. 31 to be considered for inclusion in the 2007 conference program. For questions or additional information, contact Schelling at KSBA (800-372-2962 ext. 276) or by email at kerri.schelling@ksba.org. Meanwhile, board efforts to advance student achievement will again be recognized at the KSBA Annual Conference. The ASAP (Advancing Student Achievement to Proficiency) for School Boards initiative will honor board members with individual ribbons during the conference as well as other recognitions for the district during the three-day event. Earlier this month, KSBA sent each district a one-page survey to complete. Districts wishing to apply must return that survey to KSBA, along with the requested materials, no later than Dec. 1. If you have questions about the survey, please call 800-372-2962 and ask for Dara Bass or Marti Goodlett or email them at (dara.bass@ksba.org or marti.goodlett@ksba.org). # # # |
