"A brighter future through better public schools"

Lending support/information at KASS Winter Conference

KSBA continued its history of being a major supporter at the conferences of the Kentucky Association of School Superintendents.  As this photo essay shows, KSBA staff were involved in several sessions:

  • Executive Director Bill Scott and Risk Management Director Myron Thompson (walking to podium) reported on a new environmental pollution coverage service that is now being offered to schools in light of the recent costly cleanups of mercury spills and other chemical problems at schools (often not covered by conventional insurance).

  • Governmental Relations Director Alicia Sells and our new lobbyist, Laurent Rawlings (seated), discussed hot button issues for the upcoming legislative session.  They are chatting here with Monroe County Superintendent George Wilson and Ronda Harmon, executive director of the Kentucky Association of School Councils.

  • Associate Executive Director David Baird led a workshop on the joint KASS/KDE/KSBA Voluntary Partnership Assistance Team effort to aid districts that are not meeting their academic progress targets.

Additionally, KSBA extends congratulations to Kentucky's 2007 Superintendent of the Year, Boone County's Bryan Blavatt (seem holding award with Wayne Young of the Kentucky Association of School Administrators).  His selection for the honor was announced at the KASS conference and he will represent Kentucky in the National Superintendent of the Year competition next spring at the American Association of School Administrators conference.
