Updated guidelines for 2007 Dupree

Outstanding Superintendent Award

Earlier this year, KSBA staff met with a panel of five past recipients of the F. L. Dupree Outstanding Superintendent Award to discuss ideas about the nomination and judging associated with this honor.  Those ideas have now been adopted for the process to be used in the 2007 selection process.

All changes were developed with the goals of increasing participation, ensuring a judging process as fair as possible, and placing all nominees on a level playing field in terms of submitted materials.

Changes in the first phase of the two-part nomination process are:

a)      Each of the seven sections of the nomination may be up to 200 words,

          but any text over 200 words per section will be disqualified;

b)      The nomination will be encouraged to be made via e-mail; otherwise, it

          must be typed and double-spaced.

c)      Nomination Section Seven - other effective practices:  information

         noted here must not be a repeat of information in the first six areas.

One change in the finalists' phase of the process is a rule that finalists’ nominations must be no more than 50 pages in length and must be submitted in a three-ring binder.

In addition, KSBA will attempt to ensure that past recipient judges’ panel will include one recipient from among the recipients of the past three years (to ensure familiarity both with the nominees and the job requirements).  KSBA will attempt to rotate the judges on the panel of six with no more than three serving in consecutive years.

KSBA wishes to thank Dupree Award recipients Fred Williams, Roger Marcum, Wandell Strange, Sonny Fentress and Conley Manning for their continuing contributions to this important recognition of superintendent vision and leadership.

Nominations for the 2007 F. L. Dupree Outstanding Superintendent Award will be mailed to all school board members, central offices and local Chambers of Commerce around Sept. 15.  The deadline for nominations will be Nov. 15, and will coincide with the nominations timetable for the Kentucky PTA's Warren Proudfoot Outstanding School Board Member Award and KSBA's individual and corporate Friend of Education Awards.
