KSBA publishes fourth edition of Kentucky Open Meetings Act Guide
KSBA Legal Services Director J. Stephen Kirby has completed research and writing of an updated version of the guide for school boards and school councils to comply with the Kentucky Open Meetings Act.
It is imperative that those who serve on these district bodies understand the procedures of the act. A failure to follow those procedures can cause, at a minimum, considerable public embarrassment and controversy. In the worst case, fines and injunctions may be issued by a court.
Special points of interest covered by the guide:
- Overview of the Open Meetings Act
- Who is Covered by the act?
- What is a Meeting?
- Special Meeting Distinguished From Regular Meeting
- Calling a Meeting
- The Quorum
- Voting
- The Agenda
- Closed Sessions
- Public and Press Attendance and Participation
- Appeals, Penalties and Remedies
Districts may purchase one to five copies of the guide at $50 each. Six or more copies may be purchased at a price of $45 each.
Orders may be placed by calling Debbie Dodson at KSBA at 800-372-2962.
