KSBA now accepting local school board nominations of students for 2015 First Degree College Scholarships

For the fourth consecutive year, the KSBA Board of Directors is pleased to accept applications for the association’s First Degree College Scholarship program. Two members of the Class of 2015 (one male, one female) will be awarded $2,500 nonrenewable scholarships to any two-year or four-year college or university in Kentucky or elsewhere.

Kentucky school boards may nominate one male and one female high school senior through Nov. 14. The nomination form is available here http://www.ksba.org/protected/ArticleView.aspx?iid=5PU2Y2&dasi=3G32. Only nominations submitted by local boards of education are eligible.

Nominated students must be a high school senior intending to go to college whose immediate family members (parents, guardians, siblings) have not earned a college degree. Eligible students must have obtained an ACT reading score of at least 20.

Completed nomination forms must be signed by the superintendent, the board chairman and the nominees’ high school guidance counselor. Information on the First Degree College Scholarship was mailed this week to all board members, superintendents, high school principals and guidance counselors.

The two scholarship recipients will be selected by a blind drawing at the KSBA board’s December meeting and will be announced at the Annual Conference luncheon in Louisville on Feb. 28.

KSBA will pay the scholarship directly to students’ college of enrollment upon receipt of letter of acceptance by June 1, 2015.
