KSBA Academy of Studies unveils new student health and wellness workshop for board/superintendent teams; training cadre resumes work

The KSBA Academy of Studies assists board members in obtaining continuing education while satisfying the legal requirements for annual in-service training.  It provides a framework that helps direct members' efforts and recognizes their commitment to continuous learning.

One of the Academy of Studies Level III Required Topics is Student Health and Wellness.   The new Health, Wellness & Academic Success training module will meet this requirement.

This new module is a 75-minute session for board/superintendent teams that explores the critical role school districts play in addressing the physical, mental, social and environmental factors related to health and well-being of students and staff.

This training helps the board/superintendent team gain a better understanding of the Coordinated School Health model as well as the role of the board in improving health and wellness and ensuring success for all students.

For more information about the course or to schedule this training for your district’s leadership team, contact Jean Crowley  jean.crowley@ksba.org  at 1-800-372-2962.

Cadre team back at it

Meanwhile, KSBA’s Training Cadre recently spent a full day in Frankfort refining the training skills of its members.

Begun in 2006, the Cadre consists of current and former school board members and educators trained to facilitate training sessions for school board/superintendent teams on various topics.  They facilitate sessions at conferences and in school districts throughout the state and come together annually to receive training and updates.

Current Cadre members are Melissa Bacon (Fayette County), Arlene Burnett (Bell County), Rebecca Burgett (Gallatin County), Dale Gray and Allen Kennedy (Hancock County),  Bill Lovell (McLean County), Bill Sadler (Glasgow and Raceland-Worthington independents), Scott Bivins (Muhlenberg County), David Keller (former KSBA executive director) and Brad Hughes (KSBA staff).

The KSBA Training Cadre members are available to provide training for districts in the evenings or during the day, and on week days or weekends.  For additional information and to schedule training for your board/superintendent team, please contact Crowley.
