Celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week through Friday; today (Tuesday) is National Teacher Day; Teacher of the Year nominations due May 15

KSBA joins our 872 local board of education members in congratulating and thanking Kentucky’s 43,767 public school teachers during this week’s observation of Teacher Appreciation Week 2013.  The National Education Association has selected today (Tuesday, May 7) as National Teacher Day.

One way to acknowledge great classroom instructors is to nominate one for the 2014 Kentucky Teacher Awards, co-sponsored by Ashland Inc. and the state Department of Education.

Electronic nomination forms are available here  www.kentuckytoy.com  and the deadline to enter someone in this year’s program is May 15.

Any full-time public school teacher in the state with at least three years of experience is eligible.

Additional qualifications are cited on the application. Students, parents, teaching peers, principals, superintendents or anyone from the community may nominate a teacher for this award.

The Teacher of the Year will receive a cash prize of $10,000 and will represent the state in the National Teacher of the Year competition. The 2014 Kentucky Teacher of the Year will be announced in Frankfort early next year.
