KOSAA training, CSBA legal seminars again part of KSBA conference in Louisville

Members of the USS KOSAA will dock at the Galt House in Louisville on Feb. 22 for their eighth annual Winter Meeting where the focus of "building ships" will be deployed. After opening ceremonies, Admiral Peggy Inklebarger will steer the ship "USS KOSAA" as they develop friendships, invest in skills of leadership, and take ownershipof actions and growth plans. There will be lots of fellowshipas they discuss partnershipswhile working towards scholarship.

The itinerary includes stops along the following ports:

·        Responding to Open Records Requests Lagoon

Chart a course to successfully navigate the sometimes tricky waters of how to respond to Open Records requests. From the legal specifics as developed by First Mate John Fogle, Esq. to practical implementation tips presented by Midshipman Katrina Kinman, this program strand will be a treasure chest of helpful information.

·        Next Generation Professionals Report Card Pier

Members will be encouraged to take ownership of their annual evaluation process with the Next Generation Professionals Report Card. The report card will allow assistants and superintendents to be on the same page as far as job expectations and areas for growth.

·        Overview of the Islands of KEPS and MERR

Discussions will include statutes that govern posting requirements as well as the reporting requirements; common scenarios and any new or upcoming legislation. There will be a brief overview of the “new” KEPS system and the collection of data resulting from the recent redesign. Guest navigator will be Candace Souder from the Kentucky Department of Education.

·        Destination: Building Community Partnerships

Commodore Janis Tomlinson from Walton-Verona Independent will share her district’s treasure map to a successful school -community partnership initiative and invite her KOSAA shipmates to join in on a similar excursion in their districts.

Make sure the superintendent’s administrative assistant and/or the board secretary charts a course toward growth and fellowship and make plans now to dock in Louisville on Feb. 22. (Registration is now open at thislinkon the KSBA web site – KSBA Events section of the home page.)

Meanwhile, the Kentucky Council of School Board Attorneys’ (CSBA) winter meeting is on tap for Friday, Feb. 22 and Saturday, Feb. 23 at the Galt House in Louisville.

The conference will provide more than six  hours of Continuing Legal Education credits, including one session on legal ethics.

Clinics will run from noon to 4 p.m. on Friday and from 8:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. on Saturday.
