Kentucky C of C creating school principals’ leadership institute

Submission

The Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, through the Kentucky Chamber Foundation, is working to create a Leadership Institute for School Principals to provide executive-level leadership training for public- and private-school principals, delivered by the nationally recognized Center for Creative Leadership (CCL). CCL is a top-ranked global provider of executive education founded in 1970. The center established an education and nonprofit sector in 1988 to meet the needs of education and nonprofit organizations.

The institute is available to principals who have at least one year of experience working at any school level. It will begin this summer with a pilot class of 48 principals (two groups of 24 each). The institute will focus on training to help principals:

  • Lead change initiatives
  • Build a high-performance culture
  • Influence others to ensure student success
  • Leverage relationships that ultimately affect student learning
  • Explore how knowledge of individual strengths and developmental needs can produce positive outcomes for students, schools and communities
  • Practice new behaviors for positive results
The pilot institute begins this summer with a three-day session at the Center for Creative Leadership campus in Greensboro, N.C., and will continue with a two-day session in the fall and another two-day session early in 2012 in Frankfort. Participating principals will be eligible for 21 hours of Effective Instructional Leadership credit.

Dates: June 27-29 or July 18-20. For the follow-up sessions, the June cohort will meet Sept. 13-14 and Jan. 18-19, 2012. The July cohort will meet Oct. 12-13 and Feb. 1-2, 2012.

Principals selected for the program will attend at no cost to themselves. Tuition and hotel costs will be paid by the Kentucky Chamber Foundation and each participant will receive a $1,000 stipend to cover travel and meals.

The Chamber is mailing applications to all principals statewide this month. Applicants also may access the information online here Principal Institute. The application deadline is April 14.
