Nine sessions during the four days of training at the 2014 National School Boards Association conference will have a Kentucky flavor. As of the latest report, nearly 200 Kentucky school board members, superintendents and others in public education have registered for the training and exposition events that open April 4.
Four districts – Boone County, Eminence Independent, Erlanger-Elsmere Independent and Taylor County – will be presenting workshops featuring a district initiative. All sessions are at the Morial Convention Center.

Boone County Schools (enrollment 18,500) has embarked on a quality initiative with the support of The American Productivity and Quality Center, a global leader in process and performance management. The goal is to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the district by eliminating any "white space" within the organization. The goal of increasing efficiency was achieved, and now the district is moving process-management strategies into other areas of the organization for additional gains.

(Framework of Innovation for Reinventing Education) Model. They will deliver over 20 Web 2.0 Tools while illustrating the instructional application of each. All participants will leave with a firsthand perspective of the power of Next Generation Learning and how to begin transforming the classroom experience.

Do you need to improve student success? Come learn from Erlanger-Elsmere Independent Schools (enrollment 2,400) how to design an action plan and ideas to immediately implement to develop a pipeline of supports to improve student success. Attendees will learn how innovative, holistic interventions partnered with academic supports can improve student success. Participants will receive a model needs assessment and action plan which may be revised and tailored to meet the needs of other school districts.

The End of Education as We Know It!
Saturday, April 5, 10-11:30 a.m.
This session will highlight the paradigm shift presently underway in Taylor County school district (enrollment 2,643) that is enabling all district schools to move to a 24/7, 365-day per year, standards-based educational experience. Creative technology is used to personalize coursework and advance students based on their mental capacity rather than chronological age. The district's mission to empower all students has resulted in zero dropouts for four consecutive years.

KSBA staff also will be involved in five seminars during the NSBA event.
Board Team Development Director Kerri Schelling returns as a member of the team leading the “boot camp” for new school board members.
Member Support/Communications Services Director Brad Hughes is leading sessions on news media interviews, turning board meetings into district forums, and explaining school financial issues to the public.
And Boone County’s Massey will be wrapping up his year serving as NSBA immediate past president. Massey will preside over one of the conference’s three general sessions as well as participating in the Friday Delegate Assembly.
During the Delegate Assembly, representatives from the state school boards associations adopt national association positions on federal legislation and regulatory issues. Kentucky’s delegates are President Durward Narramore of Jenkins Independent, President elect Allen Kennedy of Hancock County, Ramona Malone of Newport Independent and Interim Executive Director David Baird.
Kentucky will again participate in the eight-state Central Region reception at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside on Saturday, April 5.
