KSBA offering training on compliance with state rules on seclusion and restraint of students; one-day session set for July 25 in Lexington

Kentucky public school personnel, including contractors who perform tasks typically performed by employees directly employed by the school district, are required by 704 KAR 7:160 to receive annual training on the restraint and seclusion regulation and related district policy and procedure.

This training will flesh out the Kentucky statutes that are cited in the regulation that concern the type of property damage and disruption for which students can be restrained, etc. Administrators will be provided with information they need to train district staff on prudent implementation of the restraint and seclusion regulation.

Topics for the seminar include:

* When should staff physically restrain/seclude students?

* The meaning of references to KRS Chapter 503 in the Restraint and Seclusion Regulation

* Documenting the incident

* The debriefing session

* The complaint process

* KSBA Model Policy and Procedure

Registration is $165* per person for the first three district participants; $110 each for the fourth and fifth district enrollees and $100 each for the sixth person and beyond.

*Online registrations are for $165 per person, and the district invoice will be adjusted after the conference based on the total number of participants.

The deadline to register for the seminar is July 18.
