NSBA to offer congressional lobbying aids for school board members, including a national webinar tomorrow, Aug. 8

Submission

The National School Boards Association has issued its updated Grassroots Lobbying Guide for School Board Members. The guide is available online here http://www.nsba.org/lobbyingguide2012.

The lobbying guide includes background information, talking points and sample letters for you to communicate both effectively and efficiently with your members of Congress while they are home locally, beginning this week.  It also provides tips on how to meet with your members of Congress, communicate with the media and use social media.

In addition, school board members may register here to participate in a webinar with NSBA's advocacy staff on Wednesday, Aug. 8 at 2 p.m. ETto discuss the Grassroots Lobbying Guide for School Board Members

Issues addressed in the guide include federal funding for education programs, the reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act and sequestration (across-the-board cuts of approximately 7.8 percent that  are scheduled to go into effect in January, if Congress does not intervene).

Two special requests are extremely helpful to NSBA's lobbying efforts:

1) Share your examples with NSBA of how sequestration will impact your school district.  As you know, local examples are powerful both in your letters to Congress and when shared with NSBA, because we use your examples when lobbying on Capitol Hill.

2) When you send your letter to Congress, please include the examples and send a copy to [email protected]
