Do
you and your staff understand how to comply with student records
confidentiality and FERPA (Federal Education Records Privacy Act) issues?
The U.S. Department of
Education’s FERPA compliance office recently issued new student records
regulations. That office also announced it is ramping up its enforcement of
FERPA regulations.
On Aug. 10 in Lexington,
KSBA staff will be providing a four-hour seminar on the latest rules and
interpretations for FERPA compliance. We will cover the numerous policies and
procedures districts must have in place, as well as court cases and Family
Policy Compliance Office (FPCO) opinions.
Why is FERPA compliance
important?
* Violations can damage a student/parent.
* Civil liability
* Damages
* It is federal law.
* U.S. Dept. of Education can withhold all district federal
funding.
* Education Professional Standards Board can suspend/revoke a
teaching certificate.
* It is insubordination under local board policy.
