Operation Preparation being expanded to a whole month in 2013 to promote college and career readiness in Kentucky

The Kentucky Department of Education recently announced that its college and career readiness initiative – Operation Preparation – will cover the entire month of March in 2013.

According to an item in a recent Monday Superintendent Email from the agency, the success of the initial Operation Preparation was so successful, state officials decided to expand the timing.

“With this extended time, schools may select one week, one day each week or conduct advising sessions and activities throughout the month to accommodate their scheduling needs,” the email said. “Operation Preparation is one component of the overall advising strategy to increase college/career readiness of Kentucky students.

“KDE is in the process of revising the Operation Preparation toolkit based on recommendations received through the survey of districts participating in Operation Preparation 2012. New items will include a webinar/video illustrating how to use Individual Learning Plan (ILP) data to match students with advisors, guidance on how best to prepare students to gain the greatest benefit from the advising session and follow-up ideas for both students and parents.”
