KSBA hosting back-to-back events on annual school law update and rules on restraint and seclusion of students – May 7 and 8 in Lexington

Restraint & Seclusion Training, May 7, Embassy Suites, Lexington

Kentucky public school personnel, including contractors who do work typically performed by school district employees, are required by 704 KAR 7:160 to re­ceive annual training on the restraint and seclusion regulation and related district policy and procedure.

This training will flesh out the Kentucky statutes that are cited in the regulation about the type of property damage and dis­ruption for which students can be restrained, etc. Administrators will get the information they need to train district staff on prudent implementation of the restraint and seclusion regulation.

The session will cover when staff should physically restrain/seclude students; the meaning of references to KRS Chapter 503 in the restraint and seclusion regulation; documenting the incident; the debriefing session; the complaint process; and KSBA model policy and procedures.
