West Kentucky board members have opportunity to get required training hours during June 28 session in Eddyville

KSBA has partnered with the West Kentucky Educational Cooperative (WKEC) to offer another regional training opportunity for school board members who would like to receive training in the mandated topics of finance, ethics and superintendent evaluation.

If you need board member training credit for 2016, please consider attending the sessions to be offered on Tuesday, June 28 from 5–8 p.m. CST. The training will be held at the WKEC Conference Center, 435 Outlet Avenue in Eddyville. Courses to be offered include: Fraud – Are You At Risk?, Ethics and the School Board Meeting, and Evaluating the Superintendent – Looking Back and Moving Forward.

Descriptions of the courses being offered are as follows:

Fraud – Are You at Risk?

Learn how internal controls and segregation of duties not only help district fiscal operations, but minimize the risk of fraudulent activity.

Ethics and the School Board Meeting

Effective school board leadership often involves making ethical decisions. This session looks at board member roles and responsibilities, as well as best practices before, during and after the school board meeting.

Evaluating the Superintendent – Looking Back and Moving Forward

During the 2014-15 school year, school boards became familiar with the new Superintendent Professional Growth and Effectiveness System. The following year brought implementation in all Kentucky school districts. Use this session to discuss successes and challenges of the new instrument and process, along with best practices to ensure the SPGES assists your board/superintendent team to become more effective leaders.

The training will consist of three 60-minute workshops. There will be a $40 fee for each session a participant attends to offset the cost of the trainers, travel expenses, materials and handouts. However, there is no fee to participate in the superintendent evaluation training, thanks to a partnership with the Prichard Committee and funding through the Gates Foundation. Participants will have the option to attend all sessions or only the session(s) they need.
