Advance registration tops 200 for last KSBA board member training of 2015; deadline to lock in reduced rate lodging is Thursday

As of Nov. 17, 225 school board members and superintendents have registered for the last major professional development event of the year offered by KSBA. The Winter Symposium will open at 8:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 4 and runs through 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5 at the Louisville Marriott East.

Board members needing training hours – either for specific courses or general credits – can earn up to eight hours at the conference. Subjects covered include school finance (three classes), superintendent evaluations, ethics, student achievement, effective board meetings, news media relations, energy management and much more.

General sessions include a how-to for board members on advocacy plus an update on the 2016 legislative session (Saturday morning) and an expert’s view on bridging the generation gap with millennials (Friday luncheon).

For school leaders who interact regularly with the news media, Saturday features a three-hour workshop with interview practices for participants.

Friday will wrap up with food, beverages and music at the popular Winter Symposium tailgating reception. Saturday will open with a continental breakfast.

Online registration is available here.

Special note: Reduced lodging rates for Dec. 3-5 are available for participants at the Louisville Marriott East, 1903 Embassy Square Blvd, just off I-64 and Hurstbourne Lane. The deadline is Nov. 19 for those reservations at a nightly rate of $113. Call the hotel at (502) 491-1184.
