200-plus and counting headed to Louisville Dec. 5-6 for KSBA winter training event; mandated courses and “the basics” for newly elected leaders on tap

Now that the election of 2014 is over, new and veteran school board members are signing up for the final major board training opportunity of the year – the KSBA Winter Symposium, Friday, Dec. 5 and Saturday, Dec. 6 at the Marriott East off Hurstbourne Lane in Louisville.

More than two dozen topical seminars are on the agenda. All of the mandated courses for incumbent board members – superintendent evaluation, finance and ethics – will be offered. One finance course Friday is now closed to registration (Talking about School Finance to a Non-Financial Audience) but two more school finances courses remain open. On Saturday, finance, ethics and superintendent evaluation seminars will be offered.

Additionally, a special track of classes represents a “boot camp” for newly elected board members, running Friday and Saturday.

Any cancellations must be made no later than Dec. 2. Any cancellations after Dec. 2 will incur a $75 fee to cover food, beverages and materials reserved in anticipation of the registrant’s attendances. But substitutions are allowed.

Lodging is available at the Marriott East Louisville at a reduced rate of $110 per night through this Friday, Nov. 21. Contact the hotel at 800-228-9290.
