Coming in the June edition of the Kentucky School Advocate: A look at Kentucky’s new teacher, principal evaluation system

The June edition of the KSBA magazine, Kentucky School Advocate will explore one of the biggest mysteries arising from the Senate Bill 1 school reforms and No Child Left Behind Act waiver: the state’s new educator evaluation system.

Officials of the Kentucky Department of Education and administrators and board members from districts involved in the PGES (Professional Growth and Effectiveness System) pilot initiative will talk about Kentucky’s new way of measuring teacher and principal effectiveness in the classroom and the school office. Special attention is given to the process through the “Board View” – a 2013 added feature to the magazine, focusing on a particular issue through the insights of board members.

Among other featured articles in the June Kentucky School Advocate are:

* Changes in KSBA policy updates that will reflect findings of several special district reviews by the state auditor’s office

* A report on those audit findings and other issues covered at KSBA’s recent annual federal and state school law conference

* Covington Independent Schools are emphasizing physical fitness through good exercise and dietary habits for students and staff

* A question-and-answer examination of Open Meetings Act issues and challenges for Kentucky school boards

* Ideas and examples on how numerous Kentucky school districts, superintendents and other leaders are using social media to engage their communities

* Photo displays of the recent PEAK Award presentation in Grant County and of Owen County students learning in the Department of Agriculture’s mobile science activity center

* A farewell column from retiring KSBA Executive Director Bill Scott

Plus the regular features on state education news in Take Note and the popular review of what educators are saying through local media outlets in People Are Talking.
