School Design and Construction “Boot Camp” a new feature in KSBA Summer Leadership Institute in Lexington in July

Even as the agenda is being finalized for KSBA’s summer board member/administrator training event, a special “Friday Field Trip” is now firmed up for participants at no additional cost.

KSBA’s Summer Leadership Institute (SLI) will be July 12-13 at the Marriott Griffin Gate in Lexington and will open this year with a bonus session, “Design and Construction Boot Camp: What Every Board Member Should Know.”

Participants (who must preregister when signing up for the SLI) will be whisked away on air-conditioned buses to Winchester to the new Clark County high school.  Elements to be covered in the session include:

* Understanding the school board’s role in the design and construction process

* Preparation for decisions board must make in school construction and renovation projects

* Common mistakes and pitfalls

Veteran board members and architects who have considerable experience in school construction and design will lead the session. Participating board members and administrators may earn up to 2 hours of annual training credit at this workshop.

Buses will leave the hotel at 2:30 p.m. on Friday and return in time to allow participants to have dinner before the Opening Session of the SLI that evening.

Online registration for this year’s KSBA Summer Leadership Institute – with a special section to preregister for the Friday Field Trip – will go live on the KSBA website by the end of this week.
