Third-, fourth- and fifth-grade artists sought to participate in state’s annual earthquake awareness observation

Submission

The state of Kentucky is once again sponsoring an earthquake awareness contest for 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students.

Kentucky Emergency Management (KYEM) would like to ask for your support o "Earthquake Awareness & Great ShakeOut" instructional unit.  This wonderful tool provides teachers with a unique opportunity to educate students and families on how to prepare, protect, and recover from earthquakes.

In conjunction with the school unit, KYEM will host a statewide earthquake awareness poster contest open to all 3rd - 5th grade classes.  One state-wide winner from each grade level will receive an eReader, along with a certificate of achievement, and have their poster promoted across the Commonwealth.

Classroom teachers are asked to present the "Earthquake Awareness & Great ShakeOut" instructional unit to students anytime during January or February 2013.  All posters must be submitted to [email protected] by March 28, 2013, to be eligible.

School instructional unit materials can be downloaded free of charge at  http://kyem.ky.gov/programs/Pages/Teachers.aspx

School emergency preparedness is essential to reducing the impact of disasters in our communities.  Together, we can successfully prepare our schools, children, and families for earthquakes and other disasters.
