Nov. 2-3 sponsored by Fayette County Schools, others
This conference is being sponsored by the Black Males Working Academy of Lexington and the Fayette County Public Schools. African-American males struggle in many of our schools throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky and across the country. These young men have the lowest scores on our standardized tests, fill our special education classes and have the highest suspension rates. This conference will address the various needs of African-American males and offer strategies to help them be successful in the classroom, in the boardroom and in life.
We have invited some of the most outstanding educators from around the country with proven records of success in this area to better equip teachers and principals to educate our African-American males. Speakers include Dr. Lucian Yates, dean of education, Prairie View University in Houston, TX; Manuel Scott, a member of the Freedom Writers organization; Tim Young, principal, Urban Prep School, Chicago, IL; and former Kentucky Board of Education member Dr. C.B. Akins of Lexington.
