Packed agenda drawing nearly 300 to this week's KSBA Summer Leadership Institute
Kentucky school leaders want to learn, as evidenced by the advance registration of nearly 300 for the KSBA Summer Leadership Institute this Friday and Saturday at Lexington’s Marriott Griffin Gate Hotel and Conference Center.

In reality, the “conference” involves a series of three training and planning events:

-Friday at 11:30, board members and superintendents who want to help develop KSBA’s 2012 legislative agenda will start with a luncheon featuring Michael Resnick, National School Boards Association associate executive director for Federal Advocacy and Public Policy. That afternoon, sessions on state revenue and tax-reform proposals will lead into small work groups to identify priority issues for the 2012 General Assembly.
-Friday morning at 8:30, the summer conference of KOSAA (Kentucky Organization of Superintendents’ Administrative Assistants) will start a full day of workshops from board policy and paperless meetings to central office energy savings and designing professional development sessions for district support staff. Lunch is included in the day, scheduled to wrap up by 3 p.m.
-Friday evening, the biggie — the Summer Leadership Institute — kicks off at 7 with a two-hour seminar on Kentucky’s college and career readiness emphasis in the new school accountability system. Education Commissioner Terry Holliday and KSBA Executive Director Bill Scott will be joined by a panel of key players to detail the role of board members and superintendents in implementing the state initiative.

Saturday is a daylong lineup of clinics on key local leadership issues: TELLKentucky surveys, alternative education, district finance planning, supporting quality instructional practices, the latest on the No Child Left Behind Act reauthorization and much more.
