Online survey next step in developing KSBA's 2012 legislative priorities
Although the 2011 legislative activity is barely a few weeks old, planning by legislators, state agencies and others for the 2012 session is well under way, including development of KSBA’s list of priorities for the 2012 General Assembly.

The input of school board members and superintendents is pivotal to the work of the KSBA Board of Directors and Governmental Relations team to prepare for the upcoming session with a formal agenda of priorities that reflects our membership. In 2012, lawmakers will adopt a biennial budget and make policy decisions that will affect schools for years to come.

KSBA again is starting the legislative agenda process by soliciting the input of our members. This year, we are using an online survey for members and superintendents for whom we have e-mail addresses, and a hard copy mailing to board members who may not be online.

You may access the survey here Survey.

In 2011, you provided important direction through more than 200 responses to the online-only survey. Our goal this year is to increase that participation rate by at least 50 percent. In addition to enhanced input by more members, a greater participation rate strengthens the credibility of our position in pre-session discussions with legislators. In fact, the survey has aided KSBA in the past in successfully getting good legislation passed and bad legislation stopped.
