February Kentucky School Advocate explores inappropriate teacher-student relationships, two approaches to college and career readiness

The February edition of KSBA’s magazine, Kentucky School Advocate,  examines the increase in inappropriate – often sexual – relationships between students and their teachers and other school staff.

The magazine, which is in the mail now and will be online beginning Feb. 1, includes the latest data from the Education Professional Standards Board, information about related state laws and board policies, and discussions by local leaders who have had to deal with such situations.

Other features in the February Kentucky School Advocate include:

* An inside look at the Henderson County High School’s open house on college and career readiness

* Covington Independent’s retooling of college prep efforts to better encourage students to purse postsecondary studies

* Harrison County Schools’ new take on an old issue: providing students with nutritious foods that they’ll also want to eat

* Two school boards and school councils that have gone high-tech through use of KSBA’s electronic meeting service

* Program details of KSBA’s March 19 bullying prevention conference at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond

* Two perspectives on school funding cuts and the work of the new coalition, Kentucky Education Action Team
