State House salutes KSBA School Energy Managers Project (SEMP) for national ENERGY STAR awardThe following resolution was recently adopted by the state House of Representatives, sponsored by Majority Floor Leader Rocky Adkins:

A RESOLUTION recognizing and commending the Kentucky School Boards Association's School Energy Managers Project (SEMP) on being selected as a 2014 national ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year.

WHEREAS, SEMP began in 2010 with federal funds to cover partial costs for 35 new energy managers to work in 144 school systems and support 14 existing energy managers; and

WHEREAS, after federal funding ran out in 2012, SEMP partnered with Louisville Gas & Electric, Kentucky Utilities, the Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet, and Tennessee Valley Authority to continue financial support for school energy managers; and

WHEREAS, in collaboration with the Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet, utilities, and other energy stakeholders, SEMP currently assists 37 energy managers in 78 districts helping schools reduce energy costs and building greater energy awareness among local education leaders, students, and their families; and

WHEREAS, SEMP is being nationally recognized for its leadership in creating statewide energy efficiency and environmental programs for new and existing schools through staff professional development, technology evaluation, analytical support, and development and implementation of energy management plans; and

WHEREAS, out of 16,000 organizations that participate in the ENERGY STAR program nationwide, the Kentucky program was selected as a 2014 national ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year by the United States Environmental Protection Agency and will be presented the award on April 29, 2014, in Washington, D.C.;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

?Section 1. The House of Representatives hereby commends the Kentucky School Boards Association's School Energy Managers Project as a 2014 national ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year.

?Section 2. When the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it does so in honor of the School Energy Managers Project for the national recognition it has received and for its school energy management programs, which save money and energy for Kentucky schools while protecting the environment.

?Section 3. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is directed to mail a copy of this Resolution to David Baird, Executive Director, Kentucky School Boards Association, 260 Democrat Drive, Frankfort, Kentucky 40601.
