The Kentucky Historical Society’s HistoryMobile is on the road, offering students and others around the Commonwealth the opportunity to learn about the choices Kentuckians made during the Civil War era.

“Torn Within and Threatened Without, Kentuckians in the Civil War Era” is an interactive exhibit that uses comic book-style graphics and authentic artifacts to tell the stories of eight people, ranging from the famous to the enslaved. Their examples show the importance of personal choice in shaping Kentucky’s history.

HistoryMobile visitors learn about Union and Confederate soldiers, public servants, a plantation owner and slaves, while being challenged to consider what choices they would have made if faced with the same situations as these people.

The HistoryMobile, a full-length semitrailer, visits schools and public events from March through November. More information, including booking information and teacher resources, is online here http://history.ky.gov/portfolio/what-would-you-choose/.

HistoryMobile visits are booked months in advance, so the Historical Society advises educators to get in touch now for future opportunities.
