KSBA Annual Conference Update: Keynote speakers, lodging deadline nears, awards schedule set
KSBA Annual Conference Update: Keynote speakers, lodging deadline nears, awards schedule set

As of today’s edition of Boardcast, we are nearing the 800 mark on advance registration for the 79th KSBA Annual Conference Feb 27 – March 1 at the Galt House Hotels and Conference Center in downtown Louisville.

You may register online here.

Those who have not registered so far are strongly encouraged to look carefully at the online registration forms to see which classes already are at seating capacity. While signing up doesn’t guarantee you a seat, it does help KSBA staff to match interest level in individual clinics with room size. And it gives attendees a better way to plan their workshop choices.

Fourteen of this year’s workshops are devoted to the three areas of state-mandated board member training: superintendent evaluation, ethics and finance. One of Friday morning’s three-hour, pre-conference sessions (additional fee) covers all three areas. Throughout the coming year, KSBA will be offering expanded major conference and regional training on these topics.

Keynote Speakers:

Friday Opening General Session (1 p.m.): Patrick Henry (No, not that one – he’s been dead for 200 years!). Henry’s message on “Keeping Your Team in Tune” will be filled with music, message and more than a bit of mirth. The Alabama native and former Nashville songwriter is a member of the board of directors of the National Speakers Association.

Saturday morning Plenary Session (9:30): Mike Staver warns that “Leadership Isn’t for Cowards,” and the author, executive coach and inspirational speaker brings a message that challenges audiences to rethink business as usual. Staver is offering KSBA conference attendees the opportunity to receive his free monthly blog and become familiar with him prior to our conference. His blog posts are short and to the point. Each month, Staver focuses on a single topic with some suggestions on how to implement it. Click here to sign up now. He will have a book sale after the session.

Sunday morning Brunch (8:30): Manny Scott. If you have seen the 2007 movie Freedom Writers, you’ve seen part of the story that is the life of Manny Scott. Scott was a high school dropout whose life turned on a chance encounter with a total stranger, and then wound up in Erin Gruwell’s English class, where he became one of the original Freedom Writers. He has spoken around the globe about healing, hope, perseverance and possibility.

Lodging deadline reminder:

Please remember that your ability to get lodging at the KSBA conference discounted rates ends on Monday, Feb. 9. After that date, lodging is on an as-available status with regular hotel rates.
