Update: KSBA Executive Director Mike Armstrong recovering from Jan. 12 auto accident

As KSBA informed members last week, Executive Director Mike Armstrong was seriously injured in a Jan. 12 accident in Lexington when his car skidded on wet pavement. He suffered leg, abdomen and chest injuries and was transported to the University of Kentucky Hospital.

We are very happy to inform you that Mike is making steady progress on his recovery. Last weekend, he was released from the hospital’s intensive care unit and transferred to an acute care room. His doctors are pleased with his improvement so far. He faces an extended period of surgery and rehabilitation on his injured leg. A timetable for his full return to his duties has not been set.

Mike conveys his heartfelt appreciation to the many people who have called KSBA, and sent emails, cards and other expressions of support and concern.

“My family and I have been overwhelmed by the incredible outpouring of encouragement we have received, almost from the moment I reached the hospital. As my wife, Toni, has said often, I have really taken a job that has placed me in a loving family,” Armstrong said. “(Associate Executive Director) David Baird has been in almost daily contact with me about my situation and the work of the association. Your professional association staff are devoted to ensuring that services to members don’t miss a beat. I have complete confidence in David and our team to continue the high-quality level of services our members expect day in, day out.

“Thank you all – each and every person who has reached out to Toni and me – for your love and support,” Armstrong said.

Armstrong became executive director of KSBA on Oct. 1, 2014 after retiring as superintendent of the Lawrence County Schools.
