Deadline is Nov. 16 for local boards to nominate two students for second annual KSBA First Degree College Scholarship program

KSBA invites local school boards to submit the names of two students (one male, one female) for selection as recipients of $2,500 toward postsecondary expenses in the 2013 First Degree College Scholarship program.

High school seniors may be nominated for the scholarships to attend any two- or four-year accredited college or university. The nonrenewable scholarships are paid directly to the students’ college of choice upon receipt of admission acceptance.

Eligible students are those seeking to become the first members of their immediate families to earn a college degree. The eligibility rules identify “immediate family” as parents and/or guardians and siblings by birth. Students nominated must also have achieved a minimum reading score on the ACT exam of 20.

Only the names of the first two students (one male, one female) submitted from a school district will be enrolled as eligible for the scholarships, which will be selected by the KSBA Board of Directors through a random drawing.

Nomination forms are available online here  http://www.ksba.org/about.aspx. Click on the link marked “Scholarship Form” at the bottom of the page. Each form must be signed by the nominated student’s high school guidance counselor, the superintendent and the school board chairman.

Completed forms must be received by KSBA Executive Director Bill Scott, 260 Democrat Drive, Frankfort, KY 40601, by the close of business Nov. 16.

The two students who are chosen for the scholarships will be announced and introduced during the KSBA annual conference next February.
