REmark your calendars! 2013 KSBA annual conference moving to Feb. 22-24

The colors of the leaves aren’t the only things changing these days in Kentucky. KSBA is changing the dates of next year’s annual conference to ensure the training event provides the best possible professional development opportunity for its members.

The new dates will be Friday, Feb. 22 through Sunday, Feb. 24 at the Galt House Hotel and Suites in downtown Louisville.

A scheduling conflict has arisen, requiring the association to make some difficult choices, said Kerri Schelling, director of KSBA’s Board Team Development Service and manager of the annual and other conferences.

“One aspect of this conference that our members have spoken about loud and clear over the years was to have lodging as close as possible to all of the conference sessions. When you have as many as 1,000 participants as we often do, there really is only one option anywhere in Kentucky with sufficient rooms within close walking distance, and that’s the Galt House hotels,” Schelling said.

The scheduling conflict in early February left KSBA staff with two options: move the conference to a different location, requiring participants to travel farther between workshops and their lodging rooms, or find another set of dates during which the Galt House had the necessary rooms.

“We know our members want the close proximity to their rooms for quick trips back to pick up a sweater or drop off a packet,” Schelling said.  “So we chose to focus on keeping our members as close together as possible, rather than spreading them around Louisville at other hotels, adding the burden of parking and more travel each day. So we were left with finding another set of dates when the Galt House could accommodate our members.

“We wanted to avoid pushing the event into March or April, getting into members’ spring break plans, basketball tournaments and other conflicts,” she said. “Of course, we know these new dates will have conflicts of their own for some members. But we’re hoping this move provides the best opportunity for the most people who look forward every year to the KSBA conference.”

The deadline for submitting proposals to present at the conference or for a student group to perform remains Oct. 31. Information on submitting proposals is available on the KSBA website on the Board Team Development page here  http://ksba.org/AnnualConference.aspx.
