Profile being finalized for director-at-large posts on KSBA Board of Directors; project to identify main duties for future office holders

Members of the KSBA board and staff are completing an in-depth process to develop a comprehensive list of the duties and responsibilities of those local board members who serve as directors of the association.

“The purpose of this document is to serve as a high-level overview of the main duties and tasks of the position,” said Kerri Schelling, KSBA’s director of Board Team Development.

The profile was created by members of the KSBA board, facilitated by Schelling using a process known as DACUM (Developing a Curriculum), which involves capturing the observations of incumbents on the major duties and related tasks of an occupation.

In the case of KSBA directors, the job profile includes an extensive list of knowledge, skills and traits which are essential to their leadership role in the association. These include such areas as school finance and budgets, the political process in Frankfort, capacity to manage change, dependability, flexibility, commitment of time and travel, and knowledge of KSBA services, policies, vision and planning.

Association leadership duties are incorporated in areas ranging from maintaining fiscal oversight of the organization, defining association policies, establishing a legislative agenda and participation in quarterly board meetings and committee processes.

The KSBA Board of Directors will consider formal adoption of the job profile at its June meeting.
