Action for Health Kids will be awarding $1.2 million to schools for the 2012-13 school year to support school nutrition goals. The program is funded by the Walmart Foundation, Kellogg's and the Kellogg's Corporate Citizenship Fund.
Funds can go toward supporting a number of school nutrition programs:
* School breakfast programs (Grab n' Go, Breakfast in the Classroom, 2nd Chance)
* School gardens
* Farm to school programs
* Salad bars
* Taste tests
* Healthy classroom parties
* Summer feeding programs
* Nutrition education
* Improving food quality in school stores, a la carte, athletic events, and fundraisers.
Take advantage of these funds to reach your school's goals. Make your school one of 500-plus to receive these funds. The average grant size is $2,000. Granted schools will also receive valuable in-kind contributions from Action for Healthy Kids in the form of people, programs, and school nutrition and management expertise to support efforts to create long-term, positive changes in school breakfast, competitive foods, summer meals, and access to healthy food and nutrition education.
