Universities’ researchers examining boards’ impact on student achievement, importance of local decision making

American’s local school board members are invited to participate in an international study of school board members in the United States and five other countries.
The results of this study will significantly add to our knowledge base about the governance factors that positively impact student achievement as well as raise awareness about the importance of increased support for local school boards and their state/national associations.
Preliminary research with educationally high-performing countries is very clear: There are substantive gains in student achievement when decisions about public education are made closer to the local level of governance.
