Behavior Institute 2012, sponsored by the Kentucky Department of Education, Kentucky Center for School Safety and the Central Kentucky Special Educational Cooperative, will take place June 27-28 at the Lexington Convention Center.
Among the featured speakers are:
* · * Travis Brown (also known as Mr. Mojo), whose focus is on preventing bullying and motivating students to take a stand against bullying.
· * Marcia Tate, a master teacher, author and consultant, on “brain-compatible” learning strategies based on brain research.
· * Dianna Browning-Wright, a psychologist and trainer on student behavior issues, on positive intervention strategies for students.
· * Marleen Wong, director of the Los Angeles Schools’ Trauma Services Adaptation Center and Crisis Counseling and Intervention Services, on approaches to help students dealing with trauma related to such problems as drugs, abuse and neglect, tornadoes and military deployment.
Clinic session topics include school discipline systems, motivating students, closing the gap through mentoring, autism disorders, teaching students responsible behavior, promoting graduation as a goal, school culture, alternatives to suspension and discipline referral practices for administrators.
