Even for those districts that haven’t begun 2012-13 classes yet, high school and middle school sports programs are already in full swing with preseason drills. At the first pass of the football, toss of the volleyball or opening play of any other fall sport, coaches are required to run their programs according to local board policy and the rules of the Kentucky High School Athletics Association.
KSBA has designed the Coaches’ Handbook Service to ensure coaches are aware of local and state requirements for their programs. Developed and maintained by the KSBA Policy Service staff, these locally customized guides include:
· Statutory training requirements for coaches and aides
· Responsibilities of coaches – full-time or volunteer – under board polices and related procedures
· Cross-references between all board policies and KHSAA bylaws
· Consistent information for all coaches at all levels, regardless of the sport
· Printable or read-only options through the district website
The online guide features a clickable table of contents to covered topics. Among them:
· Concussions
· Use of tobacco
· Supervision
· Confidentiality
· Harassment/discrimination, etc.
As of this month, 24 school systems are using the Coaches’ Handbook Service.
