KSBA accepting nominations to serve on board of directors as director-at-large; four seats will be up for election under new bylaws

KSBA President Tom Blankenship of Lincoln County has appointed a selection committee to choose four individuals to represent school board members as directors-at-large on the association’s board. The directors’ terms will start next February.

Immediate Past President Delmar Mahan of Whitley County chairs the committee, made up of members of the KSBA board and selected school board members from around the state.  The nomination process this year is the first under newly ratified amendments to the association bylaws.

Some important information for potential nominees to consider:

·        No local board member would be eligible for election to the KSBA board for a term that would coincide with the term of another member from that same school board already on the association's board.

·        A candidate for the office of director-at-large must be eligible to serve in that new office at the time the candidate places her or his name in nomination.

Four seats are open for directors-at-large because the incumbents are ineligible for another term.

In keeping with the association’s bylaws, any Kentucky school board member may place his or her name before the committee by completing and submitting the candidacy form by Nov. 15. The Nomination Form for KSBA Board of Directors (Directors-at-large) may also be requested by contacting Kathy Amburgey at KSBA. It also is available online here at the bottom of this link
http://www.ksba.org/about.aspx.  You may return the nomination form via mail, fax or email per the instructions on the form.

Under the association’s bylaws, the selection committee will make its recommendations based on the information in the nomination form. The committee will report back to the membership with its recommendations in January and then the names will be submitted to the membership for ratification at the annual business meeting. Each nominee will be provided an opportunity to make a two-minute speech at the business meeting. The recent bylaws amendment eliminated the option for local boards to make nominations, so candidates must self-nominate before the Nov. 15 deadline.
