KSBA’s annual school law update to cover 2012 General Assembly and issues such as child abuse reporting, volunteers

The 2012 General Assembly is – almost – history, but how new laws adopted in Frankfort will impact Kentucky schools is a process under study across the state. The latest and best information on the legislative session – and much more – will be on the agenda at KSBA’s sixth annual Federal & State Law Update conference, May 10-11 in Lexington.

The lineup of speakers includes experienced school law attorneys, policy consultants and governmental relations staff with a wealth of information about changes in U.S. and state law that must be implemented in school districts next year.

For example, at least 46 school board policies and 24 local administrative procedures will be updated for next school year. KSBA’s Policy Service will present a look at those issues.

Other areas of attention at this year’s seminar include

* liability concerns based on situations around the country

* volunteer issues

financial pitfalls

child abuse reporting

a restraint/seclusion update.

A video discussion of the upcoming training has been posted to KSBA’s home page at

Don’t miss this opportunity to hear about these timely issues from experienced school law attorneys, school district policy consultants, KSBA’s legislative team, current and former superintendents and principals, and officials with the Cabinet for Families and Children.
