Students’ Starry Night ... An Arts Experience is coming Saturday to HCHS

By Lee Kendall

Students from all six public schools in Harrison County will display their artistic talents on Saturday night, April 22, in the Harrison County High School auditorium.

“It’s an opportunity for these very talented students to display their outstanding abilities for all to see,” said A Starry Night...An Arts Experience coordinator, Jenny Lynn Varner Hatter. “It’s also an opportunity to pay the community back for all of their support of our total program in this school district.”

Hatter, who is the Supervisor of Instruction for the school district, said that admission is free for the event, which begins at 7 p.m.

“You can’t beat the price,” she chuckled. “I think it’s the best bang or your buck that you’ll find on a Saturday night in Cynthiana. I am confident that everyone who attends will come away very impressed.”

Hatter said there will be plenty of visual works of art in the auditorium foyer along with performing arts on stage inside the auditorium.

“It’s a student-driven night with students who serve as emcees,” she said. “There will be two acts with an intermission between them.

She said that A Starry Night not only features students who are members of choral groups or one of the district’s bands, but will also serve as an outlet for some students who are not part of a school organization to show their skills.

“For example, if you are a really good guitarist and are not in the band or any other school-sponsored fine arts group, this night is an opportunity for you to show the world just how good you are,” Hatter explained. “For those of you who might remember, it’s kind of like the old Showcase of Excellence we used to do years ago.”
