Board members, others interested in Kentucky's new charter school law are encouraged to watch related Tuesday afternoon KDE webinar
Board members, others interested in Kentucky's new charter school law are encouraged to watch related Tuesday afternoon KDE webinarKSBA is encouraging its members to go online today at 1 p.m. ET/noon CT for a one-hour webinar on the issue of charter schools under a just-passed law.

Education Commissioner Stephen Pruitt and staff of the Kentucky Department of Education will lead the webcast on House Bill 520, the charter school legislation adopted by the 2017 General Assembly.

Under the law, any local board of education could be called upon to consider applications to operate a public charter school in its community. That process will begin after the Kentucky Board of Education adopts enabling regulations, which Pruitt has said probably will take the rest of 2017 to draft and go through the regulatory review process.

A copy of the webinar PowerPoint is attached below.

The webcast may be viewed here.

For district leaders unable to watch the webcast live, KDE will be recording the program and posting the archived video on its website.

A second webinar – dealing with the comprehensive school reform measure, Senate Bill 1 - has been postponed and will be rescheduled.
