Final schedule for Kentucky presentations set for next week’s National School Boards Association Conference in Boston

Seven clinics linked to Kentucky are on the final agenda for the 2016 NSBA national conference, April 8-11 in Boston. Four Kentucky districts are presenting and four members of the KSBA staff also are leading clinics.

Meanwhile, more than 100 Kentucky educators and guests have signed up to attend a new event sponsored by KSBA and three partners. A Sunday morning breakfast at the Westin Waterfront conference headquarters hotel is being underwritten by Codell Construction Company; Mazanec, Raskin & Ryder Co., L.P.A.; and Ross, Sinclaire & Associates, LLC. The ticketed event replaces Kentucky’s participation in a multistate evening reception.

Here’s a look at the Kentucky lineup of presentations:

Friday, April 8: KSBA Board Team Development Director Kerri Schelling will be part of a peer team leading a “bootcamp” for new school board members. Also on April 8, KSBA President Allen Kennedy of Hancock County, President-elect David Webster of Simpson County and Executive Director Mike Armstrong will represent the association at the conference’s Delegate Assembly.

Saturday, April 9: KSBA School Energy Management Project Director Ron Wilhite will discuss the energy efficiency push in the state and the board’s role in the process; the Boone County superintendent, members of the board and administrative team will have a session on 21st century education practices; and a team of Nelson County and Washington County superintendents and board members will share insights into superintendent evaluation processes.

Sunday, April 10: Taylor County superintendent, board members and staff will lead a session on self-paced student learning; KSBA Member Support/Communications Services Director Brad Hughes will teach a class on social media use for and by school leaders.

Monday, April 11: Schelling and board team development cadre member Becky Burgett will present on the association’s process for local board self-evaluations.
