Reminder: Participate in Kentucky Education Commissioner Pruitt’s Town Hall forums on school accountability

Superintendents and school board members have been visible and vocal participants in the first two of 11 regional town hall forums on redesigning the state’s school accountability system. KSBA is encouraging that participation to continue.

The meetings on "defining school success" are being hosted by Commissioner Stephen Pruitt to gather ideas and suggestions for use in developing a new and more effective accountability system.

In a news release, Pruitt said, "It is my goal to collaborate with legislators, educators, students and the public to produce a system that is fair, reliable, valid and easier to understand than what we have now." The work also is being driven by Congress’ recent reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, now known as the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). ESSA shifts much of the oversight and responsibility for schools from the federal government to the state – including how accountability is determined and how to define and improve low performing schools.
