If you were not able to attend the KSBA Annual Conference or one of the spring training sessions based at education cooperatives, there are additional opportunities to meet the annual training requirement for superintendent evaluations this year.
Thanks to a partnership with the Prichard Committee for Academic Excellence and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, boards scheduling training through KSBA on the new superintendent evaluation system prior to Dec. 31 will not be charged the standard training fee and will be responsible only for the trainer’s travel expenses.
The 75-minute session, The Board and the New Superintendent Evaluation Process, will help school board members become familiar with the new superintendent evaluation system (SPGES-Superintendent Professional Growth and Effectiveness System) developed by a statewide committee working with the education department. This session explains the process for effective evaluation using a continuous improvement model and reviews the standards in the Superintendent Leadership Plan rubric. Discussions will focus on the evaluation instrument, performance levels and examples of evidence of performance.
School board members in their first or second term (0-7 years of experience) must now receive one hour of superintendent evaluation training annually. Board members with 8 or more years of service must receive one hour of superintendent evaluation training biennially.
KSBA staff and members of the Training Cadre are available to facilitate this session in districts at times convenient for the board/superintendent team. For more information and to schedule training, please contact Jean Crowley at KSBA at email@example.com or 800-372-2962.
